Why I Write

I started this blog 5 years ago as a personal and family journal - a blog seemed like the easiest way to record information on our family's adventures alongside photos (If you want to see my first-ever post, click HERE).  I made my blog public because I don't think I realized there were any other options at the time I started it.  But I've kept it public because it seems to be helpful and interesting to a lot of other people.

Over time this blog has evolved. One of the main reasons I keep this blog now is because I need the therapy it provides me. As I type out my thoughts and feelings about motherhood, work, relationships, and the happenings of my life, I figure out a lot of stuff about myself and work through things pretty well.

Another big reason for blogging is that I want to remember for myself and for my posterity what mothering is like for me and what I'm learning through trial and error about everything from balance to patience to relationships.  I want my daughter and future daughters-in-law to be able to read about the things I've figured out and maybe it will be enriching to their lives as mothers one day.  Plus I'm finding that as I read back over old posts, I often find answers to my present struggles and have a hope of avoiding the pain of learning the same hard lessons over and over again.

Finally, I write because it makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something. Some days, I don't accomplish much that is very tangible.  Sometimes at the end of the day, the house is a mess, laundry is piled up and while I started a lot of things on my "to-do list," I got interrupted 100 times and nothing got done.  On those days, it feel really good to sit down and blog about what I'm learning and what I've figured out about what works.  As I type, I usually realize that I did learn and accomplish valuable things that day.  And when I click "publish post," I get a nice little boost for actually finishing something tangible.

Anyway, I hope you'll find some nuggets that help you in your life as you peruse what's here.  And I love to get your ideas and perspectives on what I write so please make comments.

Thanks for being here!
